For many female bodybuilding fans, the NPC Nationals is the last big show of the season, consistently delivering the seasons knock out punch of incredible competitors and rising talents that draws all us producers, cameras and check books in hand. This year was no exception and we're still seeing stars.
The big news for many of the producers was the arrival of Kashma Maharaj. A blessed freak of nature from Trinidad, Kashma just "Is". There is such a harmony with her body, face and free spirit that you feel as if she just was born this way. The fact that she picked up her first weight just 3 years ago just reinforces that sensation. We are so glad we had the opportunity to work with her.
After just 3 shows Jennifer Kennedy came this close to winning her pro card in Miami Beach, coming in second in the Heavy Weights. Mass and then a touch more mass mixed with symmetry, great conditioning and wild muscle control. Shooting her was fantastic.
We also decided to try our hand with some of the physique competitors. Physique is definitely here to stay and the roster of exciting competitors continues to grow. Shooting a Physique competitor needs a different approach then a bodybuilder since bodybuilders are accustomed to moving and flexing as part of their routine, making a video shoot that much more dynamic. The same doesn't necessarily apply to a Physique or Figure competitor... so we did a hell of a lot of experimenting that weekend.
We got lucky with Nikki Warner, Danielle Neverkovec and Fern Assard. All three have great looks and physiques but also knew how to perform and connect with the camera. Fern, a true bad girl, gives new meaning to the term "smoking hot", Danielle shows that you can have serious muscle for physique and she knows how to strut it. Then there was 'Nikki Warner, Action figure'. Oh, if only Hollywood would cast women like her in the movies! Nationals were a knock-out full of new, unexpected and rising talent and we'll be happy to keep taking the sucker punch. |
